Indonesia pressed for enhanced collaboration among G20 member states for developing research and capacity building related to the utilization of biodiversity resources at the G20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG).
During a virtual meeting of the RIIG forum, accessed from Jakarta on Wednesday night, co-chair Ocky Karna Radjasa underlined several objectives of the RIIG meeting, including developing collaborative research on the utilization of biodiversity resources and proposing a research theme under the collaboration scheme.
"The third is developing capacity building for the utilization of biodiversity resources," he said.

On the occasion, Ocky, who is also chief of the Earth and Maritime Research Organization of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), highlighted the significance of sustainable utilization of biodiversity resources for supporting blue and green economies.
The realization of blue and green economies, which encourages the sustainable production of resources on land and at sea, also needs to be linked with digital platform approaches to maximize outcomes, he said.
Several themes have been proposed with regard to the collaborative research scheme, such as the adoption and implementation of new technology and innovation for blue and green economies as well as the development of an ecosystem- and nature-based approach, particularly in relation to the utilization of biodiversity resources.

The other theme is the conservation of biodiversity and the utilization and development of pharmacies based on the indigenous biodiversity of each member state, he said.
The proposed themes also include climate change adaptation and mitigation, specifically the impact of climate change on biodiversity, and socio-economic life.
Indonesia also proposed a theme of clean and sustainable energy derived from non-fossil fuels, he said.
