Participants of a G20 side event visited a micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) exhibition and tried using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) digital payment in Denpasar city, Bali province, on Friday.

They attended an international seminar entitled ‘Digital Transformation for Financial Inclusion of Women, Youth, and MSMEs to Promote Inclusive Growth,’ a side event of the 2022 G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), organized by the Finance Ministry and Bank Indonesia.

Dozens of G20 delegates, along with representatives from Bank Indonesia and the Bali provincial government, visited the MSME exhibition themed ‘Rising Bali’ at the Art Cultural Park Center, Denpasar city, to see various local handicrafts and souvenirs.

After reviewing the products, a number of delegates tried the QRIS payment services.

They lauded the payment method, which has been considered very efficient, simple, and convenient to use amid the COVID-19 pandemic since it is cashless.

"There are a lot of MSME products here and all of them are very interesting to see. I am very impressed to see such beautiful authentic Balinese hand-made knitting products," a Singaporean delegate, Isvary Sivalingam, said.

She also noted that the products displayed at the exhibition can also be found on digital platforms.

"Selling products digitally is the best trading method during the COVID-19 pandemic. I just tried the QRIS payment method. It is great since it is simple to use," she remarked.

Meanwhile, head of the MSME development and consumer protection department of Bank Indonesia, Yunita Resmi Sari, said that amid the pandemic, MSME players are required to get technology savvy so they can compete and survive.

"Before the MSME actors in Bali province enter the digital platform to market their products, they will be trained first, thus they will be able to adapt to digital technology, which is developing each day," she said.

Bank Indonesia is depending on the utilization of the QRIS efficient payment method to take advantage of the digitalization era.

"We assess that the implementation of QRIS has assisted MSME players in carrying out various kinds of transactions during the pandemic," the department head added.
