The G20 Education Working Group (EdWG), under the leadership of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, has reached a consensus on accelerating education transformation to achieve learning recovery.

This acceleration will be done in the spirit of gotong royong (supporting each other) to reach a common goal, chair of the 2022 G20 EdWG, Iwan Syahril, said, according to a press release received from the Education Ministry here on Friday.

"Gotong-royong and this vision are two solid foundations in the leadership of the ministry at the EdWG G20," Syahril added.

In addition to emphasizing the importance of gotong-royong in recovering together, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, emphasized that Indonesia sees the future and wants to race toward it, instead of just playing catch-up.

The ministry will share the G20 EdWG report that covers the principle of gotong-royong at the United Nations’ Transforming Education Summit (TES) this year.

"This means that the voice of the Indonesian leadership will obtain the attention of the world and even more countries," Syahril said regarding the initiative to take the results of the EdWG to the TES.

"The G20 EdWG report draft that we will bring to the global level has received positive appreciation, and the education recovery framework based on the principle of gotong-royong will have its own part," he added.

Meanwhile, the head of Spanish delegates, Andreas Contreras, as well as the head of French delegates, Francois Parain, voiced their support for Indonesia's leadership of the second EdWG meeting.

Parain expressed support for and encouraged the initiatives to bring the voice of the G20 EdWG 2022 to a higher-level meeting such as TES.

"We think it is very important to record that the education system plays such a fundamental role in economic vitality and social correlation. So, we could have something advocating that in the face of future global challenges," Parain said.

The third meeting of the EdWG will be held from June 22–23, and the fourth meeting, as well as the ministerial meeting, will take place from July 25–27.
