Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Friday reviewed the progress of the renovation project for the VVIP Terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali.
He assured that the project, which started in March 2022, will be finished in time to welcome G20 delegates in November 2022.
"So far, the progress is going well. Thank you to related parties who have followed up on the agreed design. We hope that this project can be completed in August 2022 and can be used to welcome state guests," Sumadi said in a statement received here on Friday.
The VVIP terminal will be revitalized based on the modern Balinese design concept, he informed.
"The color will be modern white, with a touch of local Balinese wisdom," Sumadi added.
During the renovation, the terminal belonging to the Indonesian Air Force will be used for serving state guests and the President.
The revitalization is a part of the implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 116 of 2021 concerning the Acceleration of International Events Implementation in Bali Province, Jakarta Province, West Nusa Tenggara Province, and East Nusa Tenggara Province, the minister informed.
The Ministry of Transportation has taken strategic steps for supporting the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali and collaborated with various parties to ensure transportation accessibility for G20 delegates through the VVIP terminal’s revitalization.
The VVIP terminal’s design is inspired by traditional Balinese architecture, known as Wantilan—a building that functions as a meeting place for Balinese indigenous people and is adorned with carvings of Balinese ornaments, paintings, and plants, such as the Balinese Songket cloth, as well as statues of Garuda and Lion Ambara Raja.
