Local micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) players have expressed delight at getting the chance to promote their products at the ongoing 2nd G20 Sherpa Meeting taking place in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, from July 10 to 13, 2022.

"Exhibiting the ikat woven fabrics at this event (2nd G20 Sherpa Meeting) is a special opportunity. I am very proud to be able to showcase the ikat songke Manggarai products here," Donata Sin, a traditional ikat weaver from Pontuara village, NTT province, said in Labuan Bajo on Monday.

Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique from Indonesia in which, prior to weaving the fabric, individual or bundles of yarns are bound in tight wrapping to form patterns. Meanwhile, songke Manggarai refers to traditional woven clothes produced in Manggarai region, NTT.

Sin also demonstrated the weaving process on a traditional weaving loom before G20 Sherpa delegates who visited her exhibition booth.

"People from various countries have become aware of the songke Manggarai and its weaving process,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, the owner of Forlavivian Ikat Weaving Center, Wati Ontong, said that the local product exhibition at the G20 Sherpa Meeting was a rare opportunity for MSME players to showcase their potential.

"We can directly promote the products to all G20 foreign delegates," she added.

She lauded the government for helping the MSMEs to join the exhibition through the West Manggarai district government’s region-owned enterprise (BUMD) Bidadari.

The main goal of the exhibition is to introduce local products to the global community, she added.
