Indonesia's G20 Presidency focuses on developing investment to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs), including in infrastructure development, Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated during the G20 Infrastructure Investors Dialogue observed virtually on Friday.
This is a part of the G20 countries' greater efforts to create an action plan from the 2021 sustainable financing roadmap and it aligns with the existing efforts to further develop infrastructure as an Asset Class, he noted.
G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work unitedly to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.
G20 countries realized the importance of international coordination concerning the approach to identify, verify, and create investment that aligns with global development goals.
This aims to reduce risks related to mistaken sustainable development.

In 2021, G20 finance ministers and central bank governors had agreed to develop the best framework to leverage the participation of the private sector to develop sustainable investment in the future, Nazara stated.
This framework is necessary to reduce the gap between infrastructure investment that is currently still huge and to direct it toward investment in sustainable projects.
While infrastructure development has had positive impacts in terms of the economic growth, it should be noted that infrastructure, especially electricity infrastructure, also contributed to greenhouse gas emissions, he highlighted.
G20 countries had also created a roadmap to turn infrastructure into Asset Class, so that a collaborative approach is applied to gather long-term capital to develop infrastructure.
Three destination groups had been established: developing development project, developing an investment environment for infrastructure, and promoting bigger infrastructure investment standard.
Through a press statement on Friday, Communication and Informatics Ministry's secretary general, Mira Tayyiba, noted that Indonesia is committed to egalitarian sustainable development amid the global digital transformation era.
