Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi emphasized the need for the Y20 (Youth 20) forum to promote two roles of youth, notably as the agents of peace and change, for a better future for the world.
"Hence, for a better future, the Y20 must be able to advance the two roles of youth," Foreign Minister Marsudi stated while speaking at the Y20 Indonesia Summit held in a hybrid format here on Tuesday.
The Y20, as a youth consultative forum of the G20 member countries, whose presidency this year is held by Indonesia, is tasked with optimizing the two roles in handling global issues.
Playing the role of agents of peace and being future leaders, the youth must play an important part in ensuring peace and a prosperous and sustainable future, she affirmed.
In a globalized and interconnected world, this can be done by fostering dialogues and building bridges based on diversity, she affirmed.
"These are the principles that must be put forward to ensure peace," she stressed.
As the agents of change, Y20 must be able to overcome various challenges and change the world for the better as well as to think of innovative solutions.
"In this context, the youth must invest in issues that can have an impact on the future, such as health, digital transformation, energy transition, and also (ensure) a better future for the next generation," she stated.

Marsudi welcomed recommendations of the Y20 summit on efforts to make progress in addressing these priority issues.
The minister expressed hope that the Y20 peak event would serve as an effective platform to pass the leadership on to youth groups.
"The youth must be a source of solutions for the world to recover together and recover better," she remarked.
Amid the current global challenges, the transformative capabilities of 1.2 billion young people around the world could make an extraordinary contribution to global solutions, the minister said.
