W20 Summit participants expected to help promote Lake Toba: official
Delegates from 14 countries participated in the W20 meeting held under the Indonesian G20 Presidency this year.

Participants of the Women 20 (W20) Summit are expected to help promote Samosir Island, particularly Lake Toba in North Sumatra Province, once they return to their respective countries, an official has said.

"Of course, we hope that the W20 participants would help promote the beauty of Lake Toba in their respective countries," Samosir District Head Vandiko T. Gultom said in Samosir on Thursday.

The presence of foreign delegates at the W20 Summit held in North Sumatra Province from July 19 to 21, 2022, is expected to have a good impact on Samosir tourism, which is ready to receive foreign tourists, he added.

"The visit of the W20 participants to Samosir is a free promotion, and we hope that after this, there will be more visits to Samosir from local and foreign tourists," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of the Lake Toba Authority Agency Jimmy Panjaitan said that in developing tourism in Samosir District, the agency will promote "go sites", geosites, and the cultural preservation area.

According to him, foreign tourists are fond of and enjoy outdoor activities.

"Online ticketing will soon be made (available) to support visits to Samosir, so there will be no excuse to say that access to Samosir is difficult. Online tickets will be applied at the Ajibata-Ambarita Crossing," he added.

The Women 20 (W20) is an official G20 engagement group, which was established during the Turkish presidency in 2015.

Its objective is to ensure that gender considerations are mainstreamed into G20 discussions and translate into the G20 Leaders’ Declaration as policies and commitments that foster gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
