Within the document, we will encourage policy recommendation, so that the role of SMEs can truly be realized and even become the main pillar of the economy, specifically in IndonesiaThe Manpower Ministry encourages strengthening Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for facilitating job creation through the 5th G20 Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting.
According to a press statement on Wednesday evening, the ministry's secretary general noted that the group would complete an Annex or the G20 Manpower Ministers' Declaration attachment document.
The EWG is a forum to discuss economic and social aspects of employment-related policies. The EWG is also a means for G20 members to exchange ideas and best practices in their respective countries.
Meanwhile, G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.
"Within the document, we will encourage policy recommendation, so that the role of SMEs can truly be realized and even become the main pillar of the economy, specifically in Indonesia," he remarked.
G20 countries realize that SMEs play a major role in the economy in all countries, he noted during the sidelines of the first day of the EWG V held virtually on Wednesday.
This is apparent from the fact that more than two-thirds of jobs in the world are found in micro and small enterprises, he remarked.
Moreover, SMEs play a significant role in supporting the people's economic resiliency amid disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, SMEs still possess several weakness in the form of finance, human resources, and managerial access, among others.
"To this end, we direct the recommendation to (address) issues that have been identified, so that SMEs can become stronger. One of them is the spirit of entrepreneurship," Sanusi remarked.
Through the weakness identification process, several aspects have been formulated as recommendation within Annex-3.
These include vocational training to strengthen talent and interest in entrepreneurship, accurate financial access format, and protection in the form of social insurance for SMEs actors.
"These are the points to be discussed and approved and will be described within the third attachment or Annex-3 from the G20 Manpower Ministers' Declaration," he explained.
The Fifth EWG Meeting is held virtually on August 17-19, 2022. In addition to Annex-3, the meeting aims to finish the Annex-4 and Annex-5 to complete the Five G20 Manpower Ministers Declaration Annex.
