The Bangka Belitung Islands provincial authority will involve residents to ensure success of the G20 Development Working Group (DWG) event hosted by the province next September.

"The process to recruit Belitung's youth for the G20 DWG event is ongoing," Bangka Belitung Islands Acting Governor Ridwan Djamaluddin stated here, Saturday.

G20 DWG is one of the working groups of Indonesia's G20 Presidency that aims to discuss development issues in developing countries, least developed countries, and island countries.

The acting governor highlighted that involvement of community, customary, and religious figures as well as the general public is vital to ensure G20 events in the province will be held in a smooth, secure, and peaceful manner.

"We want to showcase Belitung as a safe and comfortable place to visit. Our residents are friendly, the local cultures are respected, and we are always ready to welcome visiting tourists," Djamaluddin remarked.

Meanwhile, Special Staff for the Minister of National Development Planning Ervan Maksum concurred with the step to involve residents as the branding of the G20 event in Belitung Island.

"We all concurred that the distinction of (the G20) DWG in Belitung with three other host cities is the (result of) involvement of local residents," Maksum affirmed.

The special staff urged Belitung's residents to ensure development affairs ministers and other delegates for the G20 DWG event return to their countries of origin with pleasant memories of the Belitung people's hospitality and warmth after the event's conclusion.

Moreover, East Belitung District Deputy Head Burhanuddin also urged all parties and customary leaders to preserve regional conditions and security while the province hosted the G20 event.

"We are ready to welcome G20 events, during and after the events, so that visitors will have a good impression of Belitung while they are departing," he remarked.
