"Cities in the world have an important role (to play) as the front line to overcome various challenges faced by city residents," Baswedan stated here, Saturday.
U20 is organized under the Sherpa Track of G20 to discuss problems and challenges arising in cities that mainly focus on tackling the global climate crisis and striving for sustainable development.

Baswedan then drew attention to the three main areas of focus comprising investment in the health sector and public housing as the basis for economic and social recovery.
The second area to be prioritized is to promote a sustainable energy transition and equitable access to sustainable mobility, and third, to provide education and training related to the future of work for equitable access to the job market.
Through the U20, cities representing G20 member countries are committed to working with national governments to address the most pressing challenges facing the world, including recovery from the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to the issue of the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum will discuss matters pertaining to climate emergencies and increasing structural inequality, he affirmed.
This year, U20 will focus on issues and challenges faced by cities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the theme, Post-pandemic Cities.

According to Baswedan, the U20 meeting in Jakarta will become a place for the exchange of thoughts and ideas to face increasingly complex global challenges.
Jakarta will host the meeting of city government leaders representing member countries of the Group of 20 (G20) or the Urban 20 Mayors Summit in Central Jakarta on August 30-31, 2022.
Later, the U20 forum will deliver recommendations related to efforts to face the challenges of the city government to the Indonesian government that holds the G20 presidency on the agenda of the High-Level Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, on November 15-16, 2022.
