Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate urged the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) to formulate the Ministerial Declaration to handle digital problems in future.
The declaration should not only be formulated based on the aspirations of the Indonesian government but also for a digital future, Plate remarked during the opening of the DEWG meeting in Bali, through a press statement, Tuesday.
The DEWG is one of the working groups of the G20 that focuses on issues related to the digital economy and highlights the role of digital transformation on economic and social growth.
G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.
Plate identified several challenges that include the worrisome digital gap, lack of understanding on digital literacy and skills, and a rise in the number of data leak cases.
In addition, the economic value of digitalization and cross-border data flow harmony to produce new ideas and innovations also become foundational issues. Discussion on these issues will continue to the next presidency.
