The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on Friday urged a European Union-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) business delegation to participate and collaborate in efforts to achieve tangible benefits during Indonesia's G20 Presidency.

"We expect that there will be cooperation with the EU-ABC in the concrete deliverables of the Indonesian G20 Presidency," Deputy for Coordination of Economic Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Edi Prio Pambudi said during a meeting with the EU-ABC, according to an official statement released on Friday.

The meeting discussed several issues related to the Indonesian G20 Presidency, Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023, efforts to boost Indonesia's economy after the pandemic, the initiation of structural reforms through the Job Creation Law, low carbon economy, downstreaming of nickel industry commodities, and the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiations.

The EU-ABC delegation, led by EU-ABC vice chairman Tassilo Brinzer, lauded Indonesia for its successful handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as positive achievements of the national economy, which grew by 5.44 percent in the second quarter of 2022.

EU-ABC also expressed its support for Indonesia’s measures for structural reform through the ratification of the Job Creation Law in the hope of improving the investment climate in Indonesia, particularly through the integrated Online Single Submission Risk-Based Approach system to assist in business licensing.

“We are looking forward to Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship next year because Indonesia is one of the ASEAN economic powerhouses. For this reason, I expect that the ASEAN economy can continue to grow and be integrated into Indonesia's leadership," Brinzer added.

During the meeting, the EU-ABC delegation also voiced support for the acceleration of the completion of IEU-CEPA negotiations.

The EU-ABC said that it is ready to help improve the investment and business climate in Indonesia and is interested in working together to resolve climate change issues.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as well as representatives of European companies from various sectors belonging to the EU-ABC.
