Regarding the life of the bridge, we estimate that it can reach 50 years in the future...
Bangka Belitung Islands’ National Road Development Center (BPJN) has completed the revitalization of a bridge that provides access to the venue for the ministerial meeting of the G20 Development Working Group (DWG).
"The renovation of the bridge has reached 99 percent. Today (September 2, 2022), we are opening the traffic flow, thus the bridge can be used by vehicles," Head of Bangka Belitung Islands BPJN Dadi Muradi said here on Friday.
DWG is one of the working groups of the Indonesian G20 Presidency that aims to discuss developmental issues in the least developed countries, developing countries, and small developing island countries.
The BPJN official stated that the revitalization of Air Terong I bridge in Terong Village, Sijuk Sub-district, Belitung District, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, could be completed in just six months, faster than the targeted working period of 10 months.
He noted that the bridge has a length of 30 meters, with a maximum load of 100 tons, an increase compared to the previous load of only 70 tons.
"Regarding the life of the bridge, we estimate that it can reach 50 years in the future, thus routine maintenance will be carried out on this bridge later," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Belitung District Isyak Meirobie lauded the completion of the infrastructure ahead of schedule.
"I give five stars as my appreciation and respect to BPJN and its staff who have worked hard as well as been extraordinarily committed and consistent. The bridge should be completed in December, but it can be (finished) three months faster," he remarked.
He informed that the Air Terong I bridge will become the main access to the main location during the implementation of the 2022 G20 DWG ministerial meeting on September 7 to 9, 2022.
In addition to being the main access to the G20 venue, the bridge will also be used to access the Tanjung Kelayang Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and other leading tourism destinations in the region, the deputy district head added.
Since the bridge would be the main route passed by the delegates, it would showcase the infrastructure readiness of the region to hold big events, he said.
