Indonesian State Audit Board (BPK) Chair Isma Yatun hopes the new G20 engagement group -- G20 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI20) group -- would become Indonesia's legacy in G20 Presidency and continue for subsequent G20 Presidency.

"I think SAI20 is the first engagement group to produce a communiqué. We hope in the next G20, the SAI20 would still exist. This is the legacy of Indonesia's Presidency in G20," Yatun noted during a media talk at the BPK office in Jakarta on Monday.

The SAI20 Summit, which was initiated by BPK, aims to promote transparency and accountability for good governance at the G20 forum.

The meeting produced two main outputs, specifically the rules of procedure and the SAI20 communiqué on accelerating economic recovery and supporting the achievement of SDGs, she remarked.

The board chair stated that the SAI20 High-Level Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, on August 29-30, 2022, was attended by eight members of SAI20 that were physically present, while four of them attended it virtually.

The BPK is optimistic that the SAI20 would have an impact on the board internationally and on the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

"We want to have a resonance not only in INTOSAI but also in G20 countries. This is good collaboration between the government, parliament, and SAI," Yatun affirmed.

As for the SAI20 communiqué, SAI20 members emphasized that apart from the immediate impact of the pandemic, global recovery was also at risk from persistent supply disruptions, rising inflationary pressures, financial pressures, emerging energy crises, potential climate-related disasters, increasing global instability, and weakening of the economy.

SAI20 also agreed that the SAI must focus on the government's response to accelerate economic recovery and continue intensive efforts to achieve the 2030 agenda.

In addition, SAI and other stakeholders are encouraged to create a suitable environment for the public sector and well-managed business sustainability to support the resilience of developing countries.

The forum also agreed to respond to challenges and uncertainties of the future with the aim of achieving a stronger, greener, and healthier global development.
