The Navy has readied 12 warships to secure the G20 Summit scheduled to take place in Bali in November 2022.
"In the meantime, we are preparing 12 warships, and later, we will appoint Fleet Commander II Admiral T.S.N.B. Hutabarat, as the operational control command, in order to secure the sea," Chief of Navy Staff Admiral Yudo Margono stated after a position handover ceremony of Commander of the Fleet Commander from Vice Admiral Abdul Rasyid to Rear Admiral Heru Kusmanto at Fleet Command I here on Tuesday.
According to Margono, the security plan for the G20 Summit was still being discussed by National Defense Force Commander General Andika Perkasa.
Margono said his command had discussed about some warships that will be dispatched for the G20 Summit security plan.
He also hinted at the possibility of security from warships of other countries whose delegations were participating in the G20 Summit.
"(It is) because this is the Indonesian territory, and of course, we will control them. In this marine sector, we will arrange the position of foreign warships, the position of (our own) warships conducting patrols," he remarked.
This had become an international agreement, in which a country that hosted events had ships of other countries that would guard their head of state in the host country's territory, and then the host country will arrange the patrols, he remarked.
The 17th G20 Summit will be hosted in Bali on November 15-16, 2022. The summit will be the peak of an intensive process and efforts throughout the G20 workflow of Ministerial-Level Meetings, Working Groups, and Engagement Groups during Indonesia's year-long presidency.
Indonesia's theme for the 2022 G20 Presidency is "Recover Together, Recover Stronger," which served as the government's call to the world to work hand in hand, support one another to recover together, and grow stronger in a sustainable manner.
