The G20 Employment Working Group (EWG) has endorsed manpower issues raised by Indonesia at the forum, including the issue of employment for people with disabilities, according to an official from the Manpower Ministry.

“The discussion that took place yesterday has been conducted in conducive despite some issues raised have been questioned. In principle, members of the G20 EWG have endorsed issues that Indonesia has raised," Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower Anwar said on the second day of the G20 EWG forum in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Indonesia raised several issues at the EWG regarding employees with disabilities, development of human resources capacity, social protection in the new work environment, and efforts to develop sustainable employment, he informed.

Anwar highlighted that the theme of Indonesia's G20 Presidency, 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger,’ can be realized by developing favorable employment conditions to bolster collective recovery.

On the second day of G20 EWG's first meeting, Business 20 (B20), Civil 20 (C20), and Youth 20 (Y20) were invited for discussions as they are highly relevant to issues regarding labor sector, he remarked.

Moreover, some countries outside the G20 community were also invited, including Cambodia, which will preside over the ASEAN's manpower ministers group this year, he said.

"We want to hear their policies on people with disabilities and their stances on ensuring that the disabled community will have access to employment and better living conditions," Anwar added.

Earlier, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah said that labor market inclusivity will be one of the priority issues for the first G20 Employment Working Group (EWG) under Indonesia’s Presidency.

"We have decided to prioritize inclusive labor market and decent jobs for persons with disabilities because of the urgency for common action (on this issue), particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic," Fauziyah said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
