The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is planning to install screens to display weather information at the G20 Summit locations in Bali as part of efforts to anticipate earthquakes and other disasters.

"We have prepared information related to flight weather and earthquake information, we have even made a dedicated link for it. Anyone can access the link. We will also install the display screen," coordinator of data and information for BMKG Region III, Nyoman Gede Wiryajaya, said in Denpasar on Tuesday.

He informed that weather information points will be installed at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), locations for G20 events in the Nusa Dua area, as well as hotels where the delegates and country leaders will stay.

"We are still waiting for clearance at the delegates' hotels. If allowed, we will immediately install a display screen to help the delegates access weather information, especially since Bali has entered the rainy season," Wiryajaya added.

In addition, the BMKG is also collaborating with the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Bali, to install signs and mitigation facilities. As part of other preparations, safe routes for G20 delegates have also been determined.

"We are focusing on several locations such as I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, ports, and hotels where invited guests stay. We have prepared a safe route at the airport together with BPBD and the airport community," he informed.

The evacuation routes and temporary safe places made by his party are part of an effort to anticipate the worst-case scenario of an 8.5-magnitude earthquake that could trigger a tsunami.-

"Even if it is below that number, the safe routes will make us safer and more prepared. We are also collaborating with the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) to prepare for the worst possibility," Wiryajaya said.

Bali is equipped with an early warning system based on an extreme map called the Tsunami Early System, he added.

"Until now, the system is still running. We will spread news regarding extreme weather and heavy rain through social media and the Tsunami Early System. We have prepared everything for this early warning," he disclosed.

A directive regarding the preparations for welcoming G20 delegates on November 15–16, 2022, was previously conveyed by BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati. She said the agency will focus on mitigation efforts to ensure the security and safety of G20 country leaders in case of a tsunami and earthquake.
