The Indonesian government and G20 members will continue to build or at least prepare policies for establishing upstream ICT infrastructure in all regions of their respective countries, including IndonesiaCommunication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate has stated that G20 members, including Indonesia, are committed to developing upstream information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure in all areas.
"The Indonesian government and G20 members will continue to build or at least prepare policies for establishing upstream ICT infrastructure in all regions of their respective countries, including Indonesia," he said during a startup event hosted here on Friday.
According to Plate, the government has continued to build telecommunications infrastructure despite the ongoing pandemic. Infrastructure development pursued by Indonesia encompass the installation of main fiber optic network, the construction of base transceiver station (BTS) towers, and the provision of satellite capacity.
Indonesia plans to launch two high-throughput satellites into the orbit next year.

"We keep building BTS in all regions, so that at the same time, internet usage in Indonesia grows," Minister Plate stated.
The G20 members have also agreed to encourage the improvement of digital talent capabilities, especially regarding digital literacy and skills.
They have also agreed to prepare data governance to regulate cross-country data flow and adopting the principles of legality, fairness, and transparency.
These aspects were the three major agendas agreed by the ministers, who are G20 members, at the Digital Economy Ministers Meeting (DEMM) held in Bali in September.

The agenda are in accordance with three priority issues raised by the ministry serving as the supervisor of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group forum.
The three priority issues are connectivity and post-pandemic recovery; digital literacy and skills; and cross-border data flows.
DEWG is one of the forums in the Sherpa track in Indonesia's G20 Presidency.
Indonesia will host the G20 Summit for the first time in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.
