As one of the industrial countries in the world, Indonesia has the opportunity to pioneer the development of the cooperation, and hopefully, the cooperation will benefit G20 member states and other countries, particularly developing nations.
The Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) G20 offers a crucial momentum to establish cooperation in the implementation of Industry 4.0, an official of the industry minister stated.

“As one of the industrial countries in the world, Indonesia has the opportunity to pioneer the development of cooperation, and hopefully, the cooperation would benefit G20 member states and other countries, particularly developing nations,” Director General of Resilience, Territory and International Industry Access Eko S. A. Cahyanto noted in a written statement here on Wednesday.

Cahyanto remarked that Industry 4.0 is one of the six priority topics to be discussed at TIIWG.

He noted that digitalization had produced a new generation of production and trade system. For instance, e-commerce has reduced international trade costs and connected more small businesses to consumers globally.

“To that end, the present industrial policy must take into account the modern digital trade and adopt digital technology for industries. The impacts of digitalization on trade and industry cannot be considered separate,” he remarked.

In general, digital transformation in the manufacturing sector comes in the form of new management, business and production model to facilitate the innovation and introduction of new products, he stated.

Big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence are no longer the exclusive domain of technological companies, he remarked.

The traditional economic sector has also benefited from the opportunities offered by digitalization to improve efficiency and competitive edge of their production, he affirmed.

"Hence, the future of growth in the era of Industry 4.0 will hinge on the absorption rate of the technology and its application in industries. Unfortunately, a gap exists in the utilization of technology and digitalization, and only some companies in a country have benefited from it,” he pointed out.

Under Indonesia’s G20 presidency 2022, TIIWG G20 focused on the need for integrated approaches to advance Industry 4.0 as well as to facilitate innovation and digital transformation approaches for inclusive and sustainable industrialization, he stated.

“These approaches involve stakeholders in the transformation process of Industry 4.0 and aim to create the industry 4.0 ecosystem,” he remarked.

He believes that international cooperation will be one of the keys to addressing the challenge, pushing transformation of Industry 4.0 and encouraging sustainable economic growth.

"TIIWG G20 opens up opportunities to develop an ecosystem supporting the acceleration of Industry 4.0 at the domestic and international levels and boost strong and inclusive recovery from COVID-19,” he affirmed.

Moreover, the TIIWG offers opportunities to hold dialog among G20 on Industry 4.0 in order to promote inclusive and sustainable industries, he stated.

Dialogs on industry 4.0 can also serve as a main platform to promote common understanding of Industry 4.0 among representatives of G20 member states.

He said the Industry Ministry will host the first TIIWG meeting in Solo, Central Java, from March 30 to April 1, 2022.
