In addition, the multilateral trading system must be able to provide access to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as support poverty alleviation to achieve the SDGs.

Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has said he expects the success of the 2022 G20 Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) to be repeated by the future chairs of the G20 Presidency.

In a statement received here on Friday, he expressed the hope that the next presidency would continue to hold a specific discussion on industrial issues, which were discussed for the first time at the 2022 G20 Presidency.

Meanwhile, on the second day of the working group meeting, the delegates agreed that the alignment of the trade, investment, and industrial policies is important to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The meeting discussed three of the six priority issues of 2022 G20 TIWWG, including the role of multilateral trading system to strengthen the achievement of SDGs, digital trade, and sustainable global value chains (GVCs), as well as sustainable and inclusive industrialization through Industry 4.0.

Furthermore, director general of international trade negotiations at the Trade Ministry, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, who is also the chair of the 2022 G20 TIIWG, said that the delegates agreed that the multilateral trading system must be able to respond to the dynamics of the global economic situation, such as the pandemic.

"In addition, the multilateral trading system must be able to provide access to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as support poverty alleviation to achieve the SDGs," he stated.

The delegates also shared the same view on the importance of digital trade and digital transformation in strengthening sustainable GVCs, he added.

"Strengthening the role of MSMEs and women in GVCs is important to develop the economy, reduce the digital divide, increase financial access, and improve digital trade facilitation," he noted.

Meanwhile, the delegates also highlighted the key steps required to ensure international trade and supply chains run well, which is equal access to vaccines, medicines, and medical devices.
